Winterizing My Summer Home

This guest post from Werner Rogers

Every year after all the fun and games have taken place at the summer cottage on the lake it is time to get it winterized. The process of winterizing can be long and tedious if you don't have a plan ahead of time. This year we decided to write down a list of all the things we need to do with the plumbing, roof, windows, electricity, heat etc. We have been contemplating getting new appliances in the cottage before winter came since the old ones are really taking up a huge amount of the small kitchen and they are very hard on our electric bill. We saw that we could get home energy savings  if we bought a new refrigerator that was tagged as being energy friendly. These things save you up to thirty percent on your bill. We took advantage of that deal and also put wood covers over all the windows to help protect the glass while we are gone. With the snow flying in the air and the bills still coming in, we sure are happy we got the cottage winterized just in time. This year we didn't get caught in the first snow storm trying to get the house prepared.
